Bundesliga’s bottom placed side, Heidenheim, welcome Champions League chasing Stuttgart on Sunday. Heidenheim have comfortably been the worst side in the Bundesliga this season, and find themselves seven points from safety, having only won three of their 22 matches in the German top flight.
Replacing a 28-Goal Striker: Why Ermedin Demirović Perfectly Fits Stuttgart’s System
Stuttgart have won four of their last five matches ahead of this clash, and should come into the game with momentum, having beaten Celtic 4-1 during the week to set up a path to the round of 16 in the competition.
Match Stats: Stuttgart worth backing
You can get around 1.6-1.7 for Stuttgart to win in this clash, and I think that’s a price worth taking. Heidenheim have lost their last four games in the Bundesliga, and have had defensive issues all season – with no clean sheets across their last 25 matches in all competitions.
Heidenheim have the worst home record in the Bundesliga this season, winning only two of their 11 matches. I think part of the reason as to why Stuttgart are generously priced for this clash is their midweek game against Celtic, potentially offering Heidenheim a slight advantage when it comes to rest. However, I think Stuttgart’s overall quality will be enough to withstand whatever advantage that Heidenheim gain from only playing once a week.
Stuttgart ran out 1-0 winners when the sides last met, with Heidenheim failing to carry any sort of significant threat in that game. They ended the game with just one shot on target, and they could face similar issues here, given that they’ve only managed to score 10 goals across their 11 home matches in the Bundesliga this term.
Predictions –
- Stuttgart to win @ 1.6
- Stuttgart 2+ goals @ 1.5
- Stuttgart to win to nil @ 2.63
Shot Stats: Keep an eye on Bilal El Khannouss
I was really surprised that there wasn’t more Premier League interest in Bilal El Khannouss when Leicester got relegated to the Championship. He’s a really talented player, and showed his quality during the week as he netted twice in Stuttgart’s 4-1 win over Celtic.
He’s recorded six goal contributions across his 13 starts in the Bundesliga this term, which is a decent return for a 21 year old who is new to the division. He’s had 25 shots across these games, working out to an average of 2.04 shots per 90.
El Khannouss likes to take aim from distance as well, 16 of his 25 attempts have come from outside of the box (64%) – so that could also be a market worth exploring.
Predictions –
Bilal El Khannouss 2+ shots @ 1.44
Bilal El Khannouss 1+ shots on target @ 2.1
Bilal El Khannouss to score or assist @ 1.8
Card Stats: Target Stuttgart’s midfield
Only five teams in the Bundesliga have picked up more cards domestically this season than Stuttgart. Sebastian Hoeness’ side have picked up 44 cards across their 22 games in the Bundesliga, working out to exactly two cautions per game.
This is actually more yellow cards than Heidenheim have received this term, which is a little surprising given their league position. That being said, Stuttgart’s issues with discipline come down to how young the side is – they can struggle with petulance and dealing with setbacks, which is the achilles heel of most young sides.
I would target Atakan Karazor for a card in this contest, he’ll play as Stuttgart’s enforcer in the middle of the park and has picked up three yellow cards across his 16 starts in the Bundesliga this season. I think he’ll be at particular risk when Heidenheim can put together a few attacks in transition.
Predictions –
Atakan Karazor 1+ fouls committed @ 1.2
Atakan Karazor 2+ fouls committed @ 1.90
Atakan Karazor to be shown a card @ 4.00
