42. Rodrigo Bentancur

If Lemos is David Luiz’s heir, then perhaps Rodrigo Bentancur is the slightly younger, South American version of André Gomes. A long-legged, elusive volante who escapes opponents’ tackles with ease, the Uruguayan is one of the finest products Boca has made in years, and despite his tender age of 19, he has already solidified a starting spot for the Primera División leaders. The Superclásico is the world’s biggest derby, and this teenager has already risen to the occasion several times. Boca fans may castigate him for being all technique and no grinta, but the fact is, he’s a big game player, and as we saw in the derby against River Plate a few weeks ago, and matches before such as his November performance against Gimnasia, he recovered the most balls out of any Boca player. He’s more than fancy touches and dribbles, and Europe’s top clubs have already took notice. Giuseppe Marotta has already confirmed that Juventus will use their option on Bentancur this summer, and while Juventus are already stockpiled with young midfield geniuses such as Mario Lemina and Rolando Mandragora, Bentancur’s mentality can make him a starter for La Vecchia Signora.
