Manchester City Chasing Historic Treble and First Champions League Title

It has been nothing short of a stellar campaign for Manchester City. Despite trailing Arsenal for the majority of the campaign, City sealed their third consecutive Premier League title and fifth in six years following Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. The Sky Blues would follow that up by beating Chelsea 1-0 via a goal from Julián Álvarez, continuing their unstoppable form following their 4-0 thrashing of the reigning Champions League winners Real Madrid.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won 18 of their last 20 matches in all competitions. They haven’t dropped points in the Premier League since February 18, when they drew 1-1 to Nottingham Forest, and they haven’t lost a single match since their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. City will travel to Brighton and Brentford and face off against Manchester United in the FA Cup Final, with United looking to claim their second trophy at Wembley this season after beating Newcastle 2-0 in the EFL Cup Final.

The grand finale will come on June 10, when Manchester City face off against Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League Final. Inter’s Bosnian striker Edin Džeko will take on his former club and looks set to start up top alongside Lautaro Martínez. They’ll be taking on a City side that has kept three consecutive clean sheets and that boasts the best defense in the Premier League with just 31 goals conceded in 36 matches.

Whilst City sit atop the Premier League, Inter sit third in the table, two points behind Lazio, two above Milan and five above Atalanta. There aren’t many similarities between the two teams, but one thing that they have in common is their collaborations with cryptocurrency companies. City has OKX as its official crypto partner and is netting more than $20 million this season as a result of the agreement, whilst Inter utilized crypto firm DigitalBits as their shirt sponsor up until recently.

Manchester City have equaled Manchester United’s achievement of becoming the only club to win three consecutive Premier League titles, and they’ll be looking to match United’s achievement of becoming the only Premier League team to win a treble. Having reached the Champions League Final for the first time in 2021, City fell to a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea via a goal from Kai Havertz. They came close once again in 2022 and found themselves leading for most of the tie, only to narrowly lose to Real Madrid and miss out on a spot in the Final.

Inter, meanwhile, won back-to-back Champions Leagues in 1964 and 1965, losing in the final in 1967 and 1972 before beating Bayern Munich in 2010 and completing a historic treble under José Mourinho. They have the chance to win a double with the Nerazzurri set to play Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia Final, but they nevertheless face an uphill battle as they prepare to meet a City team that is chasing the one trophy that they have yet to claim under Guardiola.
