21. Leon Goretzka

Like many of that Schalke team that shocked and nearly eliminated the defending European champions in 2015, Leon Goretzka’s progress has not gone as smoothly as some of his compatriots in that time frame. He’s best used as a shuttling interior in front of a controller, but he still needs to add layers to his game for him to be ready for the top level. Only a few years ago, he was talked up as one of the brightest prospects in Germany, but due to regular managerial turnover at club level, an unusually high crop of stellar midfielders at international level, and injuries, he still needs some polishing before he can finally make the step up to the top level. Klopp is currently looking at bringing in the aggressive, cunning midfielder to Anfield in order to compete for a place, but Goretzka must fine-tune certain parts of his game before he can join the former Mainz man’s gegenpressing midfield.
