Orlando City host Inter Miami with both sides hoping to bounce back from their opening weekend defeats. Orlando fell to a 2-1 loss at home against New York Red Bulls, while Inter Miami suffered the most surprising defeat of the opening weekend as they lost 3-0 to LAFC.

Inter Miami are defending the MLS title, having battled through the knockout tournament at the end of the league phase last term, beating Vancouver Whitecaps in the final to win their first MLS title.

Match Stats: Goals Likely

I wouldn’t read too much into the first game of the season for either of these sides. Inter Miami started the last campaign really slowly and only really started to click into gear around the midway point in the season.

The format of the MLS actually makes this a pretty effective approach, you only have to finish in the top nine in each conference to make the play-offs, so it is pretty easy to recover from a slow start to the campaign.

One trend that Inter Miami saw throughout pretty much the entirety of last season was high-scoring matches. Inter Miami scored more goals than any other side across both conferences in the MLS last season (81), with their away matches seeing 66 goals across their 17 assignments (3.88 per game).

Orlando were also pretty high up the scoring charts in the Eastern Conference last season, only Inter Miami (81) and Chicago (68) scored more goals than Orlando (63) in that half of the MLS last season. Recent meetings between the sides reflect their goalscoring abilities, with BTTS landing in each of the last two head-to-head meetings and 3+ goals stretching to each of the last four.

Shot Stats: Keep an eye on German Berterame

The natural focus when looking at players that could have an impact here usually goes to Lionel Messi, but I think he’s quite short in the market for shots and goal contributions. Even backing Messi to score would only give you a price of 1.73, so I’m happy to lean more towards Inter Miami’s new striker.

Berterame has been playing in Liga MX for Monterrey for the last four seasons, and has managed 11+ goals across all competitions in all four of those campaigns. He’s improved throughout his spell there too. His first season saw him score 11 goals, but he doubled this tally in the 24/25 season with 22 goals across his 47 appearances in all competitions.

Berterame had two shots on his MLS debut for Inter Miami, with one of those efforts finding the target. I think he’ll get chances regularly throughout the season with Inter Miami still looking like a side that will finish as one of the top scorers in MLS this term, as they did last season.

Predictions –

German Berterame to score anytime @ 2.1

German Berterame 1+ shots on target @ 1.3

German Berterame 3+ shots @ 1.6

Cards Stats: Easy to get under the skin of Inter Miami

It’s rare for the best side in a league to also be at the top of the card rankings, but this was the case for Inter Miami last season, with the club picking up 93 yellow cards across their 34 matches during the league phase of the MLS (2.73 per game).

Inter Miami picked up two cards in their opening day defeat against LAFC, showing that their tenacity hasn’t really dissipated that much heading into this season. Inter Miami picked up four yellow cards from just 10 fouls when the sides last met, back in August, with Orlando also getting involved in the fight with four yellow cards themselves, as well as a red card.

There should be a similar level of competition here with both sides looking to get off the mark for the season after suffering disappointment in their opening games of the season.

Predictions

Inter Miami 2+ cards @ 1.44

Orlando City 2+ cards @ 1.70
