Real Madrid will be ending the regular season empty-handed having lost out on the La Liga title to Barcelona and being dumped out of the Champions League by Arsenal. They can still find success in the Club World Cup which is taking place this summer, but ultimately it’s been a disappointing campaign from Los Blancos. The same can be said for Real Sociedad who sit 11th in La Liga and don’t have much to play for heading to the Bernabeu, a venue where Real Madrid have won 15 of their 18 games this season – more than any other side in La Liga.
Jude Bellingham’s Evolution at Real Madrid: A Tactical and Statistical Analysis
Match Stats: Real Madrid have been strong at home all season
Real Madrid have won 15 of their 18 games at the Bernabeu this season, no side has won more games than Los Blancos at home in La Liga this season. Their home form is backed up by a strong head-to-head record against their opponents here. Real Madrid have avoided defeat in all three meetings between the sides this season, winning two of those games.
This is the end of an era at Real Madrid with Carlo Ancelotti moving onto Brazil after this game and Xabi Alonso stepping in alongside the already confirmed signings of Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Real Madrid have reacted well to effectively losing the La Liga title with their 4-3 loss against Barcelona a few weeks ago. They’ve won the two following games which would suggest that there are still standards being kept despite Real Madrid having nothing left to play for domestically.
There is also a BTTS angle here, Real Madrid’s injury list is lengthy and includes key players at both ends of the pitch. Their depth is still enough to win this game even without several stars in the side, but their backline may come under some pressure from a Real Sociedad side that hasn’t really found any consistency this season.
Predictions:

- Real Madrid to win

Shots Stats: Mbappe the standout
Kylian Mbappe has kept his personal standards high this season even though he is ending his first season with Real Madrid without silverware. He’s scored 29 goals across his 33 La Liga appearances this season while averaging 4.87 shots per 90 and 2.55 shots on target per 90 – no player has scored more goals in La Liga than Mbappe this season.
Despite Real Madrid’s tepid end to the season, Mbappe is ending the season really strongly. He’s scored in each of his last five appearances, scoring 2+ goals in two of these games. Mbappe scored from the penalty spot in the initial league meeting between these sides right at the start of the season and is likely to be the most obvious Real Madrid attacking threat with Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr both injury doubts for this fixture.

Predictions:
- Mbappe to score anytime
- Mbappe 4+ shots
- Mbappe 2+ shots on target
Cards Stats: Real Sociedad defenders the ones to watch
Real Sociedad have picked up 85 yellow cards across their 37 La Liga games this season (2.29 per game). They picked up six yellow cards across the three meetings between the sides this season and are far more likely to catch the eye of the referee, considering that Real Madrid have only picked up 58 yellow cards this season (1.56 per game), fewer than any other side in the Spanish top-flight.
When looking at specific players, Jon Aramburu and Igor Zubeldia stand out in the Real Sociedad backline. Aramburu has picked up more yellow cards than any other player in the Real Sociedad squad (eight) but hasn’t been playing regularly recently so he may be one to watch if he comes off the bench. Zubeldia is a more regular starter and has picked up six yellow cards and one red card in La Liga this season, he’s averaging 1.50 fouls committed per 90 this campaign which suggests that he will be quite aggressive up against Mbappe.
Predictions:
- Real Sociedad to be shown the most cards
- 2+ Real Sociedad cards
- Igor Zubeldia to be shown a card
