Plenty of West Ham fans turned their noses up at the signing of Jarrod Bowen from Hull City, with the left-foot-happy forward appearing to be a bit one dimensional.

Even now it is still being debated whether he should be given an England call up, something that would not be in any doubt were he playing for the likes of Man City or Chelsea.

Can you name a player in world football who is better at free-kick taking than James Ward-Prowse? No, we didn’t think so, and that is especially the case since Messi’s free-kick radar went AWOL at PSG.

The Southampton captain is not just a dead ball specialist either, having shown he has all the skills needed to operate at the top of the game, all the while playing as part of a sub-par Saints side.

Sadio Mané is probably the best all-round attacking player in the league, but is regularly overshadowed by teammates like Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander Arnold.

Everyone was up in arms when Mohamed Salah and Robert Lewandowski were denied a Ballon D’Or in 2022, but barely anyone mentioned Sadio Mané.

The same people who overlooked the Senegalese then really have egg on their face now, because Mané led his Senegal national team to AFCON glory and could well manufacture a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona in the summer.

João Cancelo

Okay, so Cancelo is highly rated by many Premier League fans, but it’s not as if his name is ever mentioned when it comes to top awards. The Portuguese has been the best defender in the Premier League for arguably the past two seasons, and he shows no signs of slowing up.
