At just 20 years old, Lorenzo Pellegrini has started to show glimpses of his technical ability after leaving his boyhood and hometown club, Roma. He has put together an impressive goal record, and has molded himself into key cog in Eusebio Di Francesco’s midfield this season. Just like fellow Roma Primavera product Matteo Politano, he has developed into a superb prospect ever since ditching the capital city for Modena. Pellegrini donned Roma colors since age 9, and made his way through the youth ranks, scoring 11 goals in 40 matches for the development side, captaining the team to semifinals of the 2014-15 UEFA Youth League. In search of more opportunities, Pellegrini left for Sassuolo at the end of the season. Not unlike Roma’s Radja Nainggolan, he’s a dynamic midfield leader with good technique. His strongest strengths are his driving runs through midfield, which can end up leaving defenders and goalkeepers alike with their palms in their hands. He’s a complete midfielder, and if the Belgian packs his bags this summer, I wouldn’t bet against the Giallorossi coming knocking to bring back Sassuolo’s Roman colossus.
