Eli Junior Kroupi: Bournemouth’s Mesmerizing Young Forward

Eli Junior Éric Anatole Rainha Kroupi arrived at Bournemouth last summer and has quickly become one of the Premier League’s most talked-about young attacking talents, known for his searing pace and ruthless finishing. Eligible to play for France, Portugal, or the Ivory Coast, Kroupi is  extremely efficient in front of goal, which means that when he’s clean through on goal, he very rarely fails to convert the chance.

He’s also got the ability to score various types of goals, coming from either a piece of individual brilliance or via a turnover in possession, which is a regular occurrence given Bournemouth’s incredible intensity as soon as they lose the ball. As he showed when he hit the crossbar on Saturday against Fulham, he is a player who only needs a flash of sight of the goal to create a dangerous situation.

However, Kroupi is an incredibly raw talent who is going to need careful management and nurturing to ensure that he fulfils his clearly massive potential. Andoni Iralola has been doing a fine job when it comes to developing Bournemouth’s young talents, such as Kroupi, as well as the likes of Alex Scott. Whilst Iraola will be leaving the club at the end of the season, Bournemouth have already announced the appointment of Marco Rose, who is also excellent at working with young players, as his work at RB Leipzig showed.

This means that Kroupi’s development is unlikely to be affected if he stays at the club this summer. Kroupi has shown remarkable consistency in front of the goal this season, considering how young he is. This is his first season in English football and only his third full season in professional football overall. When you factor in all this information, it makes Kroupi’s cold-hearted efficiency in front of the goal even more impressive.

He has all the hallmarks of a potential world-class striker with traits not dissimilar to Thierry Henry, especially in the entirely indiscriminate way that he finishes the chances that are created for him.  He also shares the searing pace that a young version of Henry was so famous for. However, if there is one aspect of his game that could improve, it is his link play, where he creates chances for his teammates. This is, of course, something that can be worked on in training so that his all-round game will improve and evolve as the seasons go by.

There have been transfer links with Liverpool and Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window, but it would be sensible of Kroupi to stay at Bournemouth for a few more seasons yet to develop his game further in an environment where he is the undisputed first choice.  If he moved to Manchester United, he would likely have to compete with the likes of Benjamin Šeško and Bryan Mbeumo for a consistent first-team place, whereas if he stays at Bournemouth, he’d be in the team every week and would be playing Champions League football next season with them.

Overall, Kroupi is yet another example of Bournemouth’s exceptional recent recruitment, which has seen them build one of the most exciting and dynamic young teams in the Premier League under a forward-thinking and positive manager, which is why they are on the verge of making history by qualifying for Europe for the first time in the club’s history.  If Kroupi fulfils his potential, then Bournemouth could have a future world-class player on their hands.  Only time will tell if this will be the case.
