The English Premier League is one of the most popular domestic competitions in world football. This is not only because of the excitement games provide but also the tactical depth coaches exhibit and the goals most matches deliver. After all, this is a league that is focused on a more attacking style of play and a fast, frenetic pace which can often lead to defensive mistakes. It is also full of the best offensive players in world football who know how to put the ball into the net.

The 2023/24 season may have only just started but already we are seeing the goals rain in. This makes looking at the EPL top scorer chart interesting for all fans. This of course is also something which you can do in competitions in the English lower leagues, such as the FA Vase. By checking out this kind of data, football fans get the latest information on who is hitting the net regularly across English football and who the top strikers are to keep tabs on. When it comes to the Premier League, some famous names are already making their mark. Some of the top scorers so far include:

Erling Haaland

If you take a look at the current top scorers in the Premier League for 23/24, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is riding high. He has scored a huge eight goals in his first six matches and has signaled he is in the mood for more this season. Of particular note so far in 2023/24 were Haaland’s two goals on the opening day of the campaign against Burnley and his hat trick against Fulham in a 5-1 home win. His goal in a 3-1 away win against West Ham was a real striker’s finish and showed the clever movement that enables him to find the net so often.

Haaland’s physicality is also a major reason for his success in the EPL and enables him to compete effectively for the ball. When you also add in his pace to get away from defenders and his powerful, accurate finishing, he seems sure to be a constant on the 23/24 EPL top-scoring chart.

Son Heung-Min

Another elite-level EPL star who has lit up the early season top scorer chart is Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min. The two goals he netted in a 2-2 draw away at Arsenal in late September 2023 showed not only that he seems set for a successful 23/24 campaign but also why he is so dangerous for opposition sides. His pace is a major asset and enables him to not only travel quickly up the pitch in transition with the ball but also support teammates who are breaking into the opposition’s half.

Heung-Min’s intelligent movement is also a big part of his game and enables him to drift into space, before finishing off crosses or through-balls from teammates. His clinical eye for the goal and decent long-range shooting are also features that make him a regular EPL scorer in 23/24.

Jarrod Bowen

West Ham has enjoyed a steady start to 2023/24 and have top man Jarrod Bowen to thank for this. He has been in great scoring form overall, and is one of the EPL’s most deadly strikers to date. His opening day goal against Bournemouth certainly showed his ability to shoot from long range and the power he can put into shots. In addition to this, Bowen’s headed goal against Luton in mid-September also showed that he can score all kinds of goals and has a natural poacher’s instinct. His clever movement regularly causes problems for opposition defenders, who can see him burst into the spaces he has identified on the pitch with a sharp turn of pace.

Evan Ferguson

Although emerging players in other leagues, such as Akor Jerome Adams in Ligue 1, may garner lots of attention, the best youngsters in the English top tier also attract plenty of headlines. Brighton’s Evan Ferguson is a case in point and has picked up plenty of admirers for his committed, skilful displays for the Seagulls. In 2023/24, he has been in fine goal-scoring form and ranks towards the top of the Premier League scoring chart.

This is not a surprise when you look at his overall game and why he is set for a glittering career. Two-footed and good with his head, his goal on the opening day against Luton showed a real intuition for where he should be in the box to convert chances. Ferguson also has a good turn of pace to get away from his markers and drive into the opposition box.
