When Algorithms Meet Luck. The Subtle Science behind Igaming Dynamics
There are two common opposing myths in the gambling world. The first one claims that it is impossible to win at a casino, while the second one claims that there are mathematical strategies that can be used to trick iGaming algorithms and beat any slot machine. While theoretically, patterns could be discerned within these sequences to potentially exploit the algorithms, such a feat is practically improbable and inconsequential for the player, who must ultimately rely on chance. What might be construed as a pattern from a mathematical perspective is essentially randomness from the player’s standpoint.
Limits of luck
Winning at a casino really depends on luck and theoretically a gambler can win the jackpot twice in a row, although such a probability is extremely low. But luck also has its limits, which are determined by the RTP value – the percentage of return of the placed money and a key component of the game dynamics. This indicator determines what maximum percentage of bets can be returned to the player in the long term.
In all gambling games, the RTP is less than 100%, making it inherently impossible to consistently outperform the casino. There’s a direct correlation between RTP and luck: the longer one plays, the higher the probability of losing. This effect is most noticeable over extended periods and doesn’t contradict the short-term fairness of gaming algorithms.
Based on these factors, it’s clear that winning or losing in a gambling game is random, and gamblers cannot influence the outcome. It is also necessary to remember that luck is always temporary, and mathematics always wins in the end. The probability of success is equal in games with simple and complex gameplay. While game design and algorithms may be interconnected, this relationship doesn’t determine the game’s profitability. Therefore, one should not view casino games as a means of consistent income, but rather as entertainment and a way to experience intense emotions.
