34. Rémi Walter
Not many players have made the jump from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1 as seamlessly as Rémi Walter has. Playing on the left side of a midfield trio, Walter has done enough to keep last season’s omnipresent and uber-talented Vincent Koziello out of Nice’s lineup. Walter could be the player France are looking for to balance out the buccaneering runs of N’Golo Kanté and Paul Pogba. He has developed a good combination with Ricardo Pereira through the left side of Lucien Favre’s midfield, and his conservative instincts, his elusive turning radius and his overall knowledge of the game makes him a crucial part in the surprise Ligue 1 table-toppers. Didier Deschamps should consider him for a France call-up in the future, if anyone knows a tidy, unheralded midfielder, it’s him.
