Both of these sides are currently performing below expectations in Ligue 1 this term. Nice have had off the field issues which have corrupted their season, but there have been positive signs across recent weeks that suggest that they can end the season strongly.

Monaco have dropped off pretty drastically from the heights they reached last season, with the club currently sitting in 10th, after earning a second placed finish last term. Despite this underwhelming league position, a win for Monaco would put them back in the discussion for a spot in Europe next season, which has to be their goal now.
Match Stats: Look to goals instead of the match result
It’s hard to pick a winner out of these two sides, but goals seem to be almost guaranteed. Nice have only lost one of their last five matches across all competitions, but have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of these matches.
Monaco fell to a 3-1 defeat on the road against Strasbourg last time out, and have generally struggled on the road this term, with only two wins from their nine away matches domestically. These games have produced 25 goals (2.77 per game).
Even the most recent head-to-head meeting doesn’t offer many clues as to who may come out on top here, with that clash ending in a 2-2 draw when the sides met back in October. Each of the last four head-to-head meetings between the sides have seen BTTS and 3+ goals, and I think those angles are the best way to approach this clash.

Shot Stats: Sofiane Diop the man to watch
Sofiane Diop has been Nice’s best player from an attacking standpoint this season, he’s currently their top scorer with seven goals to his name, he’s also provided two assists across his 15 starts in Ligue 1.
He comes into this clash in good form having netted three goals across his last five appearances in all competitions for Nice, including a goal against Montpellier in the Coupe De France last time out.
Diop will also have good memories of playing against Monaco, having scored both of Nice’s goals against them in the 2-2 draw earlier on in the season. He also converted a penalty in that clash.

Diop has scored seven goals in Ligue 1 from 36 shots (2.61 per 90), seeing 11 of these efforts find the target (0.80 per 90). He’s currently outperforming his xG of 5.05 and has already eclipsed his goal tally from last season in Ligue 1 (6).

Card Stats: Both sides show promise for cards
Monaco have picked up 45 yellow cards across their 20 matches in Ligue 1 this season (2.25 per game), more than any other side in the division. This record is mainly due to the frustration that Monaco have encountered this season as a result of their general underperformance.
Nice have picked up 44 yellow cards across their 20 matches in Ligue 1 this term (2.2 per game), setting this up to be quite a hotly contested encounter. Nice’s card count is high for similar reasons this season, with the club facing multiple off the field issues which have leaked onto the pitch and caused Nice problems. Nice picked up four cards and a red card in the initial league meeting between the sides.
