Match Stats: Goals Flowing at Both Ends
Six of Madrid’s seven La Liga games so far have produced three or more goals, at an average of 3.71 per match.
They’ve kept just one clean sheet, and they’ve deserved that record. They’re conceding 1.44 xGA per game, though that’s more than offset by a huge 2.55 xGF at the other end.
Villarreal are no different. This selection has also landed in six of their seven games, with their matches averaging 3.57 goals.
They’re one of five sides in the division yet to keep a clean sheet. They’re dangerous going forward too, averaging 1.99 xG per match.
Predictions -
Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.22
Shot Stats: Perez to Test a Leaky Madrid Backline
I’m kicking off the player markets with one for the visitors. Madrid have conceded eight times already and haven’t impressed me defensively in the slightest.
Ayoze Perez netted his first goal of the season just before the break. He’s averaging a hefty 1.81 shots on target per 90 minutes.
His shot volume is considerable as well, at 3.88 per 90.
He’s hit the target in all five of his starts this season. He also managed it in a 29-minute cameo against Alaves.
His seven shots on target are the second-highest tally in the Villarreal squad.
Predictions -
Ayoze Perez to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 1.57
Foul Stats: Mbappe a Marked Man and Buchanan’s Busy Night
Kylian Mbappe is drawing 1.14 fouls per 90 minutes in La Liga this season. His recent form in this market has been excellent, with five fouls drawn in his last two games: two against Atleti and three against Elche.
He becomes a target because of his personality, but mostly because of his ability. He’s averaging more than three shots on target per game and already has four goals.
Renato Veiga and Santiago Mourino have combined for 13 fouls so far at the heart of the Villarreal defence.
At the other end, Tajon Buchanan has committed nine fouls already this season, the second-highest in the Villarreal squad. That works out at a hefty 2.14 per 90 minutes.
He’ll line up on the left of midfield and work back defensively, having also played at full-back.
That puts him up against either Yan Diomande or Arda Guler, who draw 3.44 and 2.89 fouls per 90, respectively.
Predictions -
Kylian Mbappe to be Fouled 1+ Times @ 1.50
Tajon Buchanan to Commit 1+ Fouls @ 1.44
