So much focus within modern football is on recruitment which is undoubtedly important. However, we should never forget that a top manager should be able to get the very best from the players at his disposal. Erik Ten Hag has done that with this Manchester United squad. Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford are shining examples of this. Both players have been reinvigorated by the Dutchman and have become crucial players for the club.
Rashford, in particular, is having the best season of his career and has already surpassed his previous best goal tally and we are only in February. This time last season, I questioned whether Rashford had the hunger to return to his best after a prolonged period of poor form. However, I am more than happy to admit that he has proved me wrong.
As a writer, I love nothing more than when a player or a team prove me wrong. I am a football fanatic and I want to see the best players in the game perform to a high level and Marcus Rashford is certainly one of those at the moment. For me, he is the best forward in European football based on current form.
Moreover, Manchester United as a collective are within five points of Premier League leaders Arsenal, have a League Cup final at Wembley to look forward to and remain in both the FA Cup and Europa League. As transitional seasons go, this is mightily impressive.
A trophy and top 4 would be a solid foundation to build upon for ten Hag at the club. With new ownership potentially on the way too, the future is looking brought for Manchester United, their manager and the fanbase. Good times look like they are back and then some.
