Will John Lundstram Sign a New Contract at Rangers?

Ever since Philippe Clement was appointed as Rangers manager, John Lundstram has been in the form of his life. The 30-year-old has made 45 appearances this season and is the heartbeat of the Rangers midfield but with his contract being up at the end of the season – will he sign a new deal?

Lundstram signed for Rangers in 2021 and he’s won a Scottish Cup, a League Cup and famously scored the winning goal against RB Leipzig to send the Light Blues to the Europa League Final. The former Sheffield United man has caught the interest from clubs in Turkey and England. Clement was asked about Lundstram’s future and he said he expects his midfielder to sign a new contract: “I’m totally confident about that. There’s a lot of love on both sides so then there will be a solution one moment.”

Barry Ferguson has praised Lundstram’s qualities as a midfielder and he believes he’s been Rangers’ most consistent player this season. He told GoRadio: “I think they’ll do everything they can to tie him down. He’s simplified his game. He’s got a brilliant energy level about him and looks like he’s a real leader.”

“He’s one of these guys where, I think it’s a dying breed in football, he’s always communicating and always on people’s back if he doesn’t feel they are doing the right thing. Since the next manager has come in, he’s been by far, Rangers’ most consistent player.”

The only trophy Lundstram has not won in Scotland is the Premiership title, but he has the chance to right that wrong and go on to win a domestic treble for the first time in his footballing career. Lundstram’s been a dominant presence in the Rangers midfield and he would be a difficult player to replace. That is why it’s pivotal for Rangers to ensure he signs a new contract.
