Match Stats: Dark Horses?

These are both sides that will fancy their chances of surprising a few people at the World Cup. Morocco have been developing on the international stage for a few years now, culminating in their brilliant run to the semi-finals of the World Cup back in 2022.

They became the first ever African side to reach the semi-finals, beating Spain and Portugal on the way. They were also retrospectively crowned AFCON champions following some real controversy in the final against Senegal. It’s clear that they’ve got the talent and experience now to go deep at this World Cup.

Norway are also in the best spot they’ve been in over the last few years after failing to qualify for recent international tournaments. Erling Haaland headlines a squad with Martin Odegaard, Alexander Sorloth and Antonio Nusa, who could also spring a few surprises this summer. At present, I’d say Morocco are currently in a slightly stronger position than Norway, given their more recent experience of international tournaments.

It’s worth noting for these friendly matches that they are very close to the start of the World Cup. While the fitness and tactical experiments are important, the main focus for these players will be to avoid injury – we’ve already seen plenty of players miss out on the tournament due to injury.

Predictions –

Morocco or Draw @ 1.66

Morocco to score first @ 2.1

Shot Stats: Bayern-bound Ismael Saibari one to watch

Ismael Saibari is a fantastic player and is coming off the back of another stellar season for PSV in which he registered 28 goal contributions across all competitions, following a 29-goal contribution haul in the 24/25 season.

His numbers are slightly inflated given the dominance that PSV have in the Eredivisie, but these are still very impressive numbers, and his three goals across seven appearances in the Champions League over the most recent campaign would further suggest that he is capable of delivering at a higher level.

Saibari shoots for fun, his shot average sat just below 4.00 shots per 90 in the Eredivisie over the previous season, and he also maintained a shot average of just under 2.0 shots per 90 in the recent Africa Cup of Nations. He likes to take aim from distance, and won’t be discouraged if his first few attempts are a bit wild.

Predictions –

Ismael Saibari 3+ shots @ 2.3

Ismael Saibari to score anytime @ 4.0

Card Stats: Tame evening expected

As I touched on earlier, this won’t be the most intense of matches due to how close it is to the World Cup. Neither set of players will be particularly keen to fly into challenges, and the heat should also play a factor in creating quite a flat atmosphere overall.

Combine this with the friendly nature of the game, and we can expect a very modest card count, or maybe none at all. It may be worth looking into foul markets, but there aren’t many on offer for this friendly, so I’d advise looking elsewhere in the market for your bets, as cards aren’t something we’re likely to see a lot of in this encounter.
