New York Red Bulls host Inter Miami in MLS on Saturday in what is one of the most anticipated fixtures of the regular season. David Beckham’s franchise have made an excellent start to the 2024 campaign and side top of the Eastern Conference after missing out on the playoffs last time around.
More Money, More Problems: Why Spending Big has Failed to Bring Consistent Success in MLS
The Storks are the division’s leading scorers on 13 goals. They have been propelled by the efforts of summer signing Luis Suarez, who already has four strikes and three assists to his name, as well as eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, who continues to thrive Stateside. Messi sits this game out due to injury.
New York will seek to profit. Sandro Schwarz’s side post two wins and draw from their five fixtures to date. While their opponents, though, have been prolific in front of goal, the Red Bulls have toiled to find the target, mustering just four goals in total. Here is the best advice for your New York Red Bulls v Inter Miami Bet Builder.
Inter Miami depleted but dangerous
MLS is a league that is typically dominated by the home team, yet Inter Miami have the scoring power in their ranks to buck this trend against a NYRB outfit that has failed to find the net in two of its four games to date this season.
Suarez’s presence will be precious for the visitors, who also boast the likes of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets in their ranks. This veteran trio will be especially important as four players are missing due to international duty, including the highly-rated Federico Redondo.
These absences open the door for New York, who were beaten 3-0 last week by a Columbus Crew side that sit second behind only Miami in the Eastern Conference table. The Red Bulls were well outplayed in that match, mustering only three shots and two corners.
They did, however, beat Dallas 2-1 in their only home game to date. Despite their depleted ranks, Inter Miami still boast a capable core of players, including Suarez, whose numbers this season have been the best in MLS. Additionally, they won this fixture 2-0 last August.
The odds of 3.1 for them to win this game look generous, but a more conservative bet is 1.62 with a +1 handicap. Inter Miami have scored at least twice in six of their seven competitive matches this season, and even without Messi will carry significant menace against an opponent struggling for fluency early in the campaign.
Miami’s Vice: How Fraud, Money, and Stars have Plagued Inter Miami’s Entrance to the MLS
Backing over two goals looks a relatively safe way to boost a New York Red Bulls v Inter Miami bet builder given every game the visitors have played this season as seen at least two strikes.
Prediction:
Inter Miami (+1 handicap) @ 1.62 on Paddy Power
Over 1.5 goals @ 1.22 on Paddy Power
Campana seeking to preserve 100% record
Inter Miami have had an xG of at least 2.3 in each of their last three matches, so they should be banked on to find the net in this match. It’s Luis Suarez who will provide much of the threat. He already has four goals for the season and, having played only 264 minutes has scored almost at the rate of once an hour. At 2.7 to net anytime, the former Barcelona star looks strong value, even without his chief partner in crime Messi to set him up.
Leonardo Campana is another interesting option for an Inter Miami bet builder. He has two goals for the season having played around half the available game time. Messi’s absence will see him play a greater role, and indeed he has netted in his two starts when the Argentine has not been available. Campana also has a high shot count in these two games, mustering 11 shots and five on target.
Lewis Morgan will shoulder the brunt of New York Red Bulls’ scoring burden. The Scotsman has netted two of his side’s four league goals this season, and with Emil Forsberg absent will be central to their attacking hopes in this encounter.
An outside bet to net is midfielder Frankie Amaya. He finished last season as NYRB’s second-top regular season scorer with five goals, making his price of 5 to net anytime an interesting one. He was, however, restricted to scoring penalties, which highlights how much the side from the Big Apple have struggled to score goals in recent months.
Predictions:
Luis Suarez to score anytime @ 2.70 on Paddy Power
Leonardo Campana to score anytime @ 3.60 on Paddy Power
Reyes to see yellow
When it comes to collecting cards, few teams have picked up more bookings than Inter Miami. Having been shown 15 cards in their five games, their crime count is one of the highest totals in the league. No team has picked up more cards. By contrast, the New York Red Bulls stats show that they only have been shown cards, two of which went to Daniel Edelman as he was sent off last weekend.
Odds on Inter Miami to pick up more cards at 1.83 are, therefore, very attractive. The Storks are on a four-match streak of picking up at least three bookings per game, which they are 2.05 to continue in New York. Even in comfortable wins over Orlando and DC United, they picked up three bookings. In terms of individuals who might be shown a card, Campana is interesting value at 5.5. The striker has already seen two bookings this season, despite keeping his foul count relatively low.
Equally, Sergio Busquets is another possibility. At odds of 2.7, he is the shortest-priced player in this market. He is so for a reason, though. He already has two cautions this season while he has committed 12 fouls in four starts. Without his usual midfield cohorts around him, this will be a harder game for the veteran.
For New York, Andres Reyes, Kyle Duncan and Sean Nealis all hit double figures in bookings last season and are expected to start in defence in this game. All three will have their temperament tested by the terrier-like Suarez.
Reyes, in particular, will be challenged. He is just coming back into the team and is short of minutes and sharpness. He picked up a team-high 13 bookings last season across just 28 appearances, so the odds of 5 on him seeing a yellow or red here look outrageously high in the circumstances.
Duncan, meanwhile, has seen two yellow cards this season and looks a good price to see yellow at 3.25.
Predictions:
Leonardo Campana to be shown a card @ 5.50 on Paddy Power
Sergio Busquets to be shown a card @ 2.70 on Paddy Power
Andres Reyes to be shown a card @ 5.0 on Paddy Power
