Match Stats: Roma chasing Champions League

The majority of Serie A is pretty settled heading into the final few weeks of the campaign, though Roma are one of the few teams that still have something to fight for as they look to lock down a spot in the Champions League next season.

Roma are currently outside of the Champions League spots on goal difference, which could end up being a crucial factor in determining the outcome of the top four given that there are only two games of the season remaining.

Roma aren’t the only side in the race either, Como have been brilliant under Cesc Fabregas this term and sit just two points behind Roma as we enter the final stretch. Roma have avoided defeat in each of their last five matches, so they enter this game in solid form, and have crucially only lost three of their 18 home matches this season.

It’s been a disappointing season for Lazio, which got worse last week as they lost the Coppa Italia final to Inter 2-0. Mauricio Sarri’s side have underperformed in the league too, sitting 14 points away from the European spots, leaving Lazio with very little to fight for in these final few matches of the campaign.

Predictions

Roma to win @ 1.5

Roma 2+ goals @ 1.57

Shot Stats: Malen on fire

Malen has made a mockery of Serie A since joining on loan from Aston Villa halfway through the season. He showed flashes of his talent under Unai Emery, but never really got the chance to show how effective he can be with a consistent run of games.

He’s been afforded that at Roma, and is notably working under one of the most talented coaches when it comes to developing attacking talent in Gian Piero Gasperini. Malen has scored 13 goals across just 16 starts in Serie A this season, as well as pitching in with two assists for the club.

He should be instrumental again here, with his shot volume being particularly standout. Malen has taken 65 shots since joining Roma (4.46 per 90). He’s completely changed the functionality of the Roma attack, his speed allows the likes of Soule and Dybala to pick up positions in neat pockets with his ability to stretch the backline.

Predictions

Malen 2+ SOT @ 1.8

Malen to score anytime @ 2.0

Malen to score & Roma to win @ 3.1

Card Stats: Lazio can lose their heads

One of the more intriguing aspects of Lazio’s underlying numbers in Serie A this season is the relationship between their foul and card numbers.

Only Milan (9.90 per game) have committed fewer fouls than Lazio (10.4 per game) in Serie A this season, yet Lazio rank seventh in the division for cards (71 – 1.97 per game), and notably have picked up more red cards than any other side in Serie A (8).

This would suggest that Lazio’s overall approach isn’t too aggressive, Sarri’s systems don’t tend to be, but the individual players in the side can slip into ill-discipline. Lazio have five players that have picked up 5+ cards in Serie A this season, so it’s not like there’s one main antagonist either.

Predictions

Lazio to be shown 2+ cards @ 1.44

Lazio to be shown the most cards @ 2.05

A red card in the match @ 5.0
