Yacine Adli Finding a New Lease on Life at Fiorentina

Two teams chasing a spot in the Champions League next season meet in Turin on Sunday when 6th-placed Juventus play host to the team immediately above them in the table in Fiorentina. Both of these teams have had a fair bit of success domestically in recent times and will be looking to push on over the second half of the season to try and finish in the top 4.  Juventus go into the game unbeaten in Serie A this term while Fiorentina have only been beaten 3 times.

Match Stats – Low-scoring affair can assist a clean sheet

These 2 teams are among the best in Serie A defensively so it would be wise to anticipate something of a low-scoring affair. That tends to be the trend whenever these 2 teams have met in recent times. The last 9 matches between the pair have seen 2 goals or fewer.

To be fair to these 2 sides, they are both scoring pretty well with Juventus having notched 28 times in 18 games, and Fiorentina 29 times in 16 games but it is the 13 against for both which suggests this could be low-scoring. Only Napoli have conceded fewer goals in Serie A this season than these two teams so they both know how to keep the back door shut and with the importance of this one quite high too, under 2.5 goals looks a really solid play.

Il Destino Del Serbo: How Dušan Vlahović Looks to Deny Doubters under Juventus’ Thiago Motta

The last 3 matches between the 2 have all ended 1-0 to the victors so while under 2.5 looks a solid play, there is plenty of value in the big prices that under 1.5 goals lands. 7 of the last 8 meetings between these 2 have also seen both teams to score no land, and when you consider that 10 of 17 Juve games this season have seen it also come in and 8 of 16 for Fiorentina, both teams to score no looks another solid selection.

Predictions:

Under 2.5 goals @ 1.65

Under 1.5 goals @ 3.20

BTTS No @ 1.80

Shots stats: Former stars can cause problems for their old sides

In a match where goals are expected to come at a premium, if you are not an unders backer, or even if you are but want something different to go at, the shots on target or shots markets are worth a second look. Players who face their former club are always motivated to deliver the goods so the first port of call for this one is Moise Kean, the ex-Juventus player who is now scoring goals for fun for Fiorentina.

Moise Kean’s Redemption Season at Fiorentina

Only Mateo Retegui and Marcus Thuram have scored more goals in the Italian top-flight than Kean. On the other side, Dusan Vlahovic is a former Fiorentina player and the Serbia international will be eager to score against ‘La Viola’. Vlahovic might not be quite as frequent in the goals statistic as Kean or indeed the shots on target one but he is a regular when it comes to having shots.

The Serbian centre-forward averages 3.7 shots per 90 in Serie A this season and with motivation high against his former side he could well be worth taking to slightly overperform that average and notch a 4th shot in this game.

Predictions:

Moise Kean – 1+ shot on target @ 1.83

Dusan Vlahovic – 4+ shots @ 1.54

Foul stats: Regular foul offenders can strike again

Given that this is likely to be a low-scoring, extremely competitive match, we should probably look at players who are prone to giving fouls away in a contest which could easily get a little feisty. Both teams have a few injuries to deal with, with players who commit fouls such as Douglas Luiz either out or doubtful for the match, but should Luiz not make it then his replacement Manuel Locatelli could be the man to be on.

What Pierre Kalulu Can Provide to Juventus’ Defense

He averages 1.6 fouls per match. That average rose slightly against Monza last time out when he committed 2 fouls and with Fiorentina likely to pack the midfield, a combative all-action defensive midfielder may easily end up committing another 2 fouls. Over on the other side, Fiorentina forward Andrea Colpani averages 1.1 fouls committed per 90 minutes and with Juve having issues down their left and potentially likely to play a more attacking option there, in helping out his defence Colpani could easily commit a foul.

Weston McKennie was at left-back last time out and he wins 0.86 fouls per 90 so he is prone to be fouled, while Kenan Yildiz plays in front of him down the same side and he averages 1.87 fouls per 90, therefore Colpani could well find himself giving a free kick away trying to negate those options.

Predictions:

Manuel  Locatelli – 2+ fouls @ 1.91

Andrea Colpani – 1+ foul @ 1.44
